Why You Keep Grasping

(it’s why you feel out of control)

Learning how to handle your desires demands a specific attitude of the heart: detachment.

Detachment is trusting God will fulfill you.

It says that you do not have to grab at the gift of beauty. It will be given to you when it please (Song of Songs 8:4).

It is difficult to wait patiently, yes.

But what’s the alternative? Becoming afraid of yourself because you can’t even control your eyes or your intentions?

The attitude of sin says: “God will not satisfy my desires. I cannot wait for Him. I must take what I want, now!”

In the Book of Genesis, the forbidden fruit represents your deepest desire, hanging on a tree. This fruit is calling for you, and you choose the fruit over trusting God; indulging yourself with something that cannot truly fill you fully.

The original sin of Eve was rebellion against God, fearing He would not provide for her, cherish her, or protect her.

In that moment of temptation, Eve, who is the apex of beauty in all creation, acted against the very logic of her beauty: instead of receiving, she grasped. She became an image of death instead of a bearer of life.

Let go of your urge to control.

Rest, and open up to God.
