The Cup Logic
The #1 reason you keep sinning.
You are fighting the wrong battle.
You’ve been trying to get rid of lust. You’ve been trying to “empty your cup”.
But there’s a better way.
I was in an online Bible course. A young Lebanese woman raises her hand during Q&A.
She asks the priest: “How do I stop falling into the same sin over and over?”
He says, “listen very well. How is Lebanon saved from darkness?”
Woman: With electricity.
Priest: That’s right. The country is saved from darkness when it turns towards light.
Woman: Yeah… I get it now.
Priest: Your battle is not to get rid of evil. Let no one here fight this battle! Your true battle is in how much you fill yourself with goodness.
He picks up an empty cup.
Look, we never say, “How can I get rid of the emptiness of this cup?” It is already empty! What do we do to “eliminate” its emptiness?
Woman: We fill it.
Priest: Right! We fill it. Don’t focus on getting rid of evil. Focus on filling yourself with the presence of God.
As a result, the evil in you will be expelled.
