5 clues about the source of your desires

And why nothing else satisfies them

Are you constantly oscillating between binging and suppressing your desires?

On one side, you want more but keep making yourself numb with dopamine hits. On the other, you suppress your longings but end up empty and cold-hearted.

Here are 5 things God communicated to me this week. All 5 guided me to the same message:

1. I give in superabundance.

John 6:1-15

2. I am the bread you want to eat!

John 6:22-27

3. I am the drink you thirst for!

He wants us to be like this baby whale. Like a dependent child, pressing our mouths to His pierced side. Drink deeply from the Fountain of Life.

He even placed signs in nature…

4. Eating is the body’s most intimate act.

In a podcast, a Muslim mocks a Catholic priest: “Pshh, you eat your God!” The priest gently says: eating is the most instinctive and intimate act of union. A newborn brings the world into itself through the mouth, the baby feeds on the mother’s milk to bring her into itself, two lovers kiss passionately to exchange each other, etc... But the act is never completed. Because, to fully consume the other would kill them! God reserved this honor to Himself alone. He is the only Person in existence who can be eaten, and remain living. St. Augustine heard God tell him: ‘I am the food of full-grown men. Grow and you shall feed on me. But you shall not change me into your own substance, as you do with the food of your body. Instead, you shall be changed into me.’”

5. I have made your heart.

God is interested in your desires, to the minute details. He made them! So, your heart is good and He doesn’t shun you for having desires. But what are they for?

See the pattern?

The restlessness you feel?

You have desires that can’t be quenched and you don’t know what to do with them. Nothing fills you up.

So you cry out, “HOW ON EARTH will I ever be fulfilled?”

Not on earth.

Not from earth, at least.

The answer is in the 5 clues:

God made you for Himself. The soul is designed to be satisfied only by an infinite Being. It is like an ocean in its potential capacity: no buckets of water, no finite goods, can fill it.

Try as much as you’d like but you will never rest until you reunite with the source of your desires.

This is what you were made for.

Come back to Him.

He wants to fill you, fully.
